Strategic Priorities

The following are MTFC’s strategic priorities for the Centre in the coming years:

Upgraded track lighting

The IAAF Track & Field Facilities Manual recommends a minimum of 75–200 lux for training and competition. Mentone’s lighting falls below this standard. Upgrading lighting is a high priority for Mentone Athletics.

Storage

Athletics training and competition require extensive equipment storage for hurdles, throwing gear, poles etc… and general items like tables and chairs. The existing brick and concrete storage facility, built in the 1960s, and an added shipping container, are now insufficient, leading to overflow into the club rooms and creating accessibility issues.

Addressing this issue will improve efficiency and accessibility and is essential to long-term planning.

Pavilion

Built in 1959 with club member contributions, the pavilion has served the community for 65 years. Planning for its replacement is essential due to outdated facilities, lack of accessibility, and inadequate space.

Other

There are a number of other areas requiring improvement to meet current and future needs. These include:

  • Junior Discus cage for Little Athletics.

  • Spectator seating around the track.

  • An upgraded timing system for school competition.

  • Shade shelters for summer events.
